SGI Knowledge Test Rules – Saskatchewan (Class 7)
The SGI knowledge test evaluates your understanding of rules of the road, traffic laws, and safe driving practices as outlined in the Saskatchewan Driver’s Handbook. You must pass this test to obtain a Class 7 learner’s licence.

1. Speed Limits (Very Important)
Urban areas: 60 km/h unless otherwise posted
School zones: 30 km/h during posted hours
Rural roads: 80 km/h unless posted
Highways: 90–100 km/h (posted)
➡️ Always follow posted signs over default limits.

2. Right-of-Way Rules (High-Test Frequency)
At a stop sign, come to a complete stop.
At a four-way stop, first vehicle to stop goes first.
If vehicles stop at the same time, vehicle on the right goes first.
Yield to pedestrians at marked and unmarked crosswalks.
Yield to emergency vehicles using lights and sirens.

3. Traffic Signals
Red: Stop
Yellow (amber): Prepare to stop if safe
Green: Go when intersection is clear
Flashing red: Stop, then proceed when safe
Flashing yellow: Slow down and proceed with caution

4. Stop & Yield Signs
Stop sign: Stop before the stop line, crosswalk, or intersection.
Yield sign: Slow down and give right-of-way; stop if required.

5. Alcohol, Drugs & Driving (Critical)
Learner drivers: 0.00% BAC (zero tolerance)
0.05% BAC: Warning range with penalties
0.08% BAC: Criminal offence
Drug-impaired driving is illegal.

6. Seat Belts & Child Safety
Seat belts are mandatory for all occupants.
Drivers are responsible for passengers under 16.
Children must use approved child safety seats.
7. Passing Rules
You must not pass:
On solid yellow lines
Near hills, curves, or intersections
At railway crossings
Passing on the right is allowed only when safe and legal.

8. School Zones & School Buses
30 km/h in school zones during posted times.
Stop for school buses with flashing red lights.
Traffic in both directions must stop on undivided roads.

9. Railway Crossings
Obey flashing lights and gates.
Stop at least 5 metres (15 ft) from nearest rail.
Never drive around lowered gates.

10. Lane Markings
Solid yellow: No passing
Broken yellow: Passing allowed when safe
White lines: Same-direction traffic
Solid white: Lane change discouraged

11. Headlights & Visibility
Headlights must be on:
From sunset to sunrise
When visibility is poor
When windshield wipers are in use
Use low beams in fog or snow.

12. Parking Rules (Tested)
Do not park:
Within 3 m of fire hydrants
Within 5 m of stop signs or crosswalks
In intersections or driveways
In front of fire routes

13. Distracted Driving
Hand-held device use is illegal.
Eating, texting, or adjusting GPS while driving can result in fines.

14. Emergency Vehicles
Pull over to the right and stop.
Remain stopped until the emergency vehicle has passed.
Move over when approaching stopped emergency vehicles.
